The SIENNA elements form a bus system consisting of sensors and actuators which use the in-house power lines as a communication bus. With SIENNA you can have a ‚Smart Home’ without time-consuming and expensive rewiring or remodeling work. SIENNA uses LON, the world’s leading device networking technology from Echelon. The communication between the SIENNA elements is confined to the CENELEC C-Band and/or the B-band and the system is compliant with the CENELEC EN50065-1 standards.

SIENNA sensors send commands to the SIENNA actuators and receive acknowledgements from these actuators. This feedback guarantees reliable operation and enables visualization with e.g. SIENNA Home Connect. Any SIENNA sensor can be combined with any SIENNA actuator. The SIENNA sensors can be combined with all commercially available flush-mounted switches and enable all electrical installations to become “intelligent”.

ADDRESS ASSIGNMENT

ALL SIENNA ELEMENTS HAVE TWO ROTARY SWITCHES FOR ADDRESS ASSIGNMENT. EACH SWITCH HAS 16 VALID POSITIONS.

• The first rotary switch sets the group address g to alphabetic values (A, B, …,P). Normally the address “P”  is not used (only addresses A, B, … O) since SIENNA Home Connect can only handle addresses in this range.

• The second rotary switch sets the element address e to numerical values (0, 1,…,15).

• Arbitrarily many elements can have identical g and e: All elements with identical g and e switch simultaneously.

• Address assignments can be changed both when the element has power or is disconnected from the powerline.

GROUP ADDRESS “G” DEFINES A SPECIFIC GROUP

• E.g. all sun blinds have the same g but different e

ELEMENT ADDRESS “E”

• Sensors with e = 0 control all actuators with identical g regardless of the e setting (e.g. central control for sun blinds):

e = 0 : Master switch; E.g. Wind detector (e = 0) draws back all sun blinds with identical g and arbitrary e.

SCHEMATIC : MASTER SWITCH

A sensor with the address g, e = 0 acts as a master switch. This sensor controls all actuators with identical g.

Please note: The address e = 0 sets the master switch to function as an On / Off switch regardless of the position of the sliding switch. This implies that for e.g. rocker switches one position is acts as “On” while the other position acts as “Off”.
